SCFD 20th Anniversary

Congratulations to SCFD on the celebration of its 20th anniversary!!!

SCFD LogoIn 1988 the voters of the greater Denver metro area approved the creation of the Scientific and Cultural District and in 2004 the voters reauthorized the tax by a wide margin so that groups like the Alpine Chorale can apply for grants until the year 2017.

The SCFD collects one cent on every $10.00 purchase in a seven-county region which includes Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson. Organizations are divided into three tiers according to how many people benefit from and/or attend events. To be eligible to apply for funding, an organization must be in existence for three years, complete a detailed application and make a presentation before the County Cultural Council. This year the proceeds from the tax generated nearly six million dollars. There were 515 grant requests and 465 awards were granted.

Colorado is one of the only tax districts in the country created to support nonprofit organizations and agencies of local government which serve the public through art, dance, music, theater, zoology, botany, natural history and cultural history.

The Jefferson County SCFD Council distributed close to one million dollars to over 70 Tier III applicants, of which the Alpine Chorale is one.  We are very pleased and feel very fortunate to say that we have received a Tier III Grant award from the Jefferson County Council for the past eight years. Our thanks to SCFD for supporting our mission.
